I am facing issue in re-linking footage in adobe after effects.
When I extract zip file and open after effects project then it is giving me missing footage error. Through UI, I am able to re-link all the footage successfully. But my requirement is to identify all the missing footage in project through script and re-link them with footage kept in “footage” folder.
I am able to replace single footage files but facing in illustrator file having three layers.
The gauntlet dragon age origins. Click to see Image
My Illustrator file name is fuutou.ai and it has three layers:
レイヤー 1
レイヤー 2
レイヤー 3
When I call replace() method for the selected footage (レイヤー 1/fuutou.ai) it is getting replaced with default layer of illustrator file (i.e. レイヤー 2). Instead of script, if I do it with UI, right click footage then click replace and select fuutou.ai, it is automatically taking
レイヤー 1 layer.
Please suggest how can I fetch specific layer of illustrator file and replace it.
I would really appreciate your answers.
Thanks in advance.

Compositions and footage items are listedin the Project panel. Unlike items in the Timeline panel and EffectControls panel, the order of items in the Project panel has no influenceon the appearance of the movies that you create. You can organizefootage items and compositions however you like, including organizing themusing folders. Solid-color footage items are automatically placedin the Solids folder.
Folders that you create in the Projectpanel exist only in the Project panel. You can expand a folder toreveal its contents, and put folders inside other folders. To movea file or folder to the top level of the Project panel, drag itto the gray information area at the top of the panel.
Youcan use the search field in the Project panel to find footage itemsthat meet various criteria, such as those with missing source files.See Searchand filter in the Timeline, Project, and Effects & Presets panels.
Fora helpful video tutorial about organizing assets in the Projectpanel, seethis video tutorial by Jeff Sengstack and Infinite Skills.
Jeff Almasol provides a script on his redefinery website that automaticallywrites specified information about footage items or layers to theComment fields for the respective items in the Project panel orTimeline panel.
Christopher Green provides a script (Project_Items_Renamer.jsx)on hiswebsite with which you can rename compositions and footageitems selected in the Project panel. You can search and replacetext in the names, append characters to the beginning or end ofthe names, or trim a specified number of characters from the beginningor end of the names.
Lloyd Alvarez provides a script on the After Effects Scripts website withwhich you can search an After Effects project and replace the filepaths for the sources of footage items. This is convenient for swappingout source files, updating a project after moving sources, or updatinga project after moving it to a different computer system.
Note:
You can use the Comment column to create a custom sorting option. Rename the column, enter corresponding information for each item (for example, camera number), and then sort by that column.
View footage item in the Footagepanel or media player assigned by operating system
When items are previewed in the Footage panel, they show the results of the footage interpretation operations.(See Interpretfootage items.)
Note:
To open the source for a footage itemusing the player application associated with that file type, Alt-double-click(Windows) or Option-double-click (Mac OS) the footage item in theProject panel. See the documentation for your operating system forinstructions for changing the associations between applicationsand file types.
You can use the Set In Point , SetOut Point , RippleInsert Edit , andOverlay Edit controlsin the Footage panel to trim a footage item and insert it into a composition.Trimming in the Footage panel can be more convenient than addingthe footage item to a composition and then trimming its layer inthe Timeline panel.
You can organize your solids, adjustments layers, and nulls better with enhanced solids folder organization. You can perform the following tasks:
Option 1:
![]()
Note:
These settings are applied to the new folders you create. Your current projects are not affected.
Note:
You can only set one folder at a time as the solids folder.
For more information, see solids color layers and solids color footage items.
You can open and edit a footage item in theapplication in which it was created, directly from an After Effectsproject. The original application must be installed on the computerthat you are using, which must have enough available RAM for itto run. When you edit and save changes to the footage in the originalapplication, the changes are applied to all instances of the footagewhen After Effects becomes the active application.
Note:
If you’reediting footage that has an alpha channel, make sure that you’re viewingand editing all of the channels, including the alpha channel, inthe other application. Otherwise, changes you make may not be appliedto the alpha channel, and it may become misaligned with the colorchannels.
When you edit a still-image sequence selectedin the Timeline or Composition panel, the individual image thatis currently displayed opens. When you edit a still-image sequenceselected in the Project panel, the first image in the sequence opens.
Before reducing your project, removing unused footage, or consolidating footage, consider making a backup by incrementing and saving your project first. (See Save and back up projects in After Effects.)
Carl Larsen demonstrates the use of the Collect Files command and the Consolidate All Footage command in a video tutorial on the Creative COW website that shows how to organize, consolidate, and archive project files and footage.
The SaveCompAsProject script from SebastianPerier on the AEScripts website saves selected compositionsas individual projects.
When you want to temporarily use a substitutefor a footage item, use either a placeholder or a proxy.
A still image of color bars used to temporarily take theplace of a missing footage item. Use a placeholder when you arebuilding a composition and want to try out ideas for a footage itemthat is not yet available. After Effects generates placeholdersautomatically, so you do not have to provide a placeholder footageitem.
Any file used to temporarily replace a footage item, butmost often a lower-resolution or still version of an existing footageitem used to replace the original. Often, storyboard images areused as proxies. You can use a proxy either before you have thefinal footage or when you have the actual footage item but you wantto speed up previewing or rendering of test movies. You must havea file available to use as a proxy.
Any masks, attributes, expressions, effects, and keyframes that you apply to the layerare retained when you replace its placeholder or proxy with thefinal footage item.
In the Project panel,After Effects marks the footage name to indicate whether the actualfootage item or its proxy is currently in use:
For best results, set the placeholder to thesame size, duration, and frame rate as the actual footage.
After Effects Relink Footage Video
IfAfter Effects cannot find source footage when you open a project, the footage item appears in the Project panel labeled Missing, andthe name of the missing footage appears in italics. Any compositionusing that item replaces it with a placeholder. You can still workwith the missing item in the project, and any effects you appliedto the original footage remain intact. When you replace the placeholderwith the source footage, After Effects places the footage in itscorrect location in all the compositions that use it.
Note:
You can find footage items for which the sourceitems are missing by typing missing in thesearch field in the Project panel. See Searchand filter in the Timeline, Project, and Effects & Presets panels.
When you use a proxy, After Effects replacesthe actual footage with the proxy in all compositions that use theactual footage item. When you finish working, you can switch backto the actual footage item in the project list. After Effects then replacesthe proxy with the actual footage item in any composition.
Whenyou render your composition as a movie, you may choose to use eitherall the actual high-resolution footage items or their proxies. Youmay want to use the proxies for a rendered movie if, for example, you simply want to test motion using a rough movie that rendersquickly.
Clicking on the Next button should start the DVD burning process. Nero startsmart free download. It takes some extra time, but better safe then sorry, especially if you decide to delete the downloaded DVD ISO image after burning.4. The Image recording dialogue window should now appear.3. Prefer to enable the 'Verify data on disc after burning' option.
For best results, set a proxy so that it has thesame frame aspect ratio as the actual footage item. For example,if the actual footage item is a 640x480-pixel movie, create anduse a 160x120-pixel proxy. When a proxy item is imported, After Effectsscales the item to the same size and duration as the actual footage. If you create a proxy with a frame aspect ratio that is differentfrom the frame aspect ratio of the actual footage item, scalingtakes longer.
Use the Create Proxy command to create a proxyfrom footage or compositions selected in the Project panel or theTimeline panel. This command adds the selected footage to the RenderQueue panel and sets the Post-Render Action option to Set Proxy.
You can create placeholder files that canbe used in different compositions. For example, you can create aplaceholder for an item in the render queue that will create a 24-fpsmovie and then drag that placeholder into a 30-fps composition. Then, when you render the 30-fps composition, After Effects first rendersthe placeholder at 24 fps and uses this rendered version as it rendersthe 30-fps composition.
If you intend to loop a visual footage itemcontinuously in your project, you only need to create one cycleof the footage item in After Effects.
Lloyd Alvarez provides a script on the AfterEffects Scripts website that automatically loops a footageitem, composition, or layer.
You can now freeze the last frame of a layer until the end of the composition. After Effects sets time remapping keyframes in the layer and extends the layer duration until the end of the composition.
To freeze the composition on the last frame of your footage, choose Layer > Time > Freeze on Last Frame.
